Match Report
Highfield School 4th Team vs  Amesbury School
On: Wednesday, 15 Sep 2021
Venue: Away

The 4th team's first fixture of the term was a Triangular tournament against St Edmund's and Amesbury at Amesbury.

It was great to be able to play a fixture with parents from all teams on the touchline after such a long gap. Add to this the glorious weather and the fact that there was to be a proper match tea the import of the day couldn't be denied.

The afternoon started with Amesbury playing St Edmund's with St Ed's winning 1-0.

Next up was our match against St Ed's and with a large squad they were able to rotate players and keep everyone fresh in the heat of the afternoon. The St Ed's boys were skillful and strong and made things tough for us. They scored early in the first half but then we started to make life trickier for them and it wasn't until the last kick of the game that the next goal was scored; unfortunately for us that was another for St Ed's rather than an equalizer for us!

The score line could easily have been significantly wider if it hadn't been for some super goal keeping from Cass Marks and whilst traffic tended to be in the direction of our goal we were able to make a few forays into enemy territory but were unable to get the ball in the net and the game finished 2-0 to St Ed's

That left the final match to decide who were to be the runners up and who would win the wooden spoon. As Amesbury only had 6 players we rotated 3 of our 9 players on and off throughout the match; the boys did very well to keep their focus despite a regularly changing group of players on the pitch.

This time we were able to be the dominant team; closing down Amesbury attacks and pushing into their area on a regular basis. Robbie Rodriguez scored our first in the first half and then threaded a great ball through for Jasper Merrick to get our second. Archie Leach rounded things off nicely with our third goal of the afternoon.

Jasper Marshall-Lee played well throughout the afternoon, as did Oscar Tyrrell-Evans in defence. Monty Palmer, Monty Leach and Harry Love also played their part during the afternoon with Harry beautifully demonstrating the air shot (or it could have been a very devious dummy that left the ball for Monty P!)

A really great start to what I hope will be an enjoyable season of Football.
