Match Report
Highfield School 4th Team vs  Cranleigh Preparatory School
On: Wednesday, 13 Oct 2021
Venue: at Home

After several matches where the rub of the green didn’t go our way today was our day to ride our luck.
The Cranleigh boys played the ball around with aplomb and had our defense under pressure from the first whistle. Fortunately our defense and midfield were always able to get that block or semi-clearance in just in time to prevent a shot.
Then, late in the half, we made a break and, under pressure, the Cranleigh defender passed the ball back to the keeper right on the line with Highfield players right there with him. After a brief goalmouth melee involving Highfield attackers and Cranleigh defenders and keeper the ball was poked across the line (I’m not sure who by) and we were a goal up rather against the run of play and that was how the first half finished.
we had kick off for the second half and barely had the whistle gone than Ralph Oppenheim was barreling down the middle of the pitch and driving the ball under the Cranleigh keeper; 2:0 to Highfield.
The Cranleigh boys were rather shell shocked but didn’t panic and were soon back to moving the ball around very effectively. The big difference was that they were now getting in some shots and eventually the pressure told and the pulled a goal back 2-1 to Highfield and the pressure levels went up another notch.
Cranleigh continued to get in shot after shot but they were just wide, struck the crossbar or were blocked by Cass Marks between the posts.
Eventually the clock ran down and we came away with the victory and whilst the result could so easily have gone the other way the boys should feel proud of their efforts under immense pressure and look forward to their final match after the half term break.
